Bibb Schools Updating Emergency Response Plan

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMHT) – In wake of the Connecticut shootings, the Bibb County school district is reviewing and updating its current emergency response plan.

Earlier this year, the school board hired a company to audit the district’s current safety procedures and offer suggestions to make them better. Now the district is getting ready to unveil its new emergency response plan.

“We started to address the safe havens report a long time ago and we will continue to address the items on the safe haven report,” Superintendent Dr. Romain Dallemand said. “We are moving forward, we are making a lot of progress. I’m very satisfied with the work we’re currently doing.”

The new plan includes no longer using security codes during an emergency, installing carbon monoxide detectors, and limiting entry to the main entrance of schools. School board member Dr. Wanda West says addressing these areas of school safety and security will help to better protect students and staff.

“I think we just need to stay on board in supporting those efforts to make sure every place in this school system is safe,” West said.

The school district hopes to finalize the new emergency response plan over the next few weeks. Dr. Dallemand expects all schools in the district to adopt the new procedures by January.
