Waffle House Shooting Suspect Gets Commitment Hearing
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The man accused of fatally shooting one person and injuring three others at the Waffle House shooting over the weekend will have a commitment hearing.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Ashley De’Mus Brown had his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon. His lawyer was not present at the time and he waived his right to a commitment hearing.
The Magistrate Court tells 41 NBC the judge is granting Brown a commitment hearing anyway because his lawyer wants him to have one. It is scheduled for December 27.
Lt. Gregory Rachel with the sheriff’s office says deputies have to get suspects into Magistrate Courty within a certain amount of time, so its not unusual that they were able to get Brown into court Tuesday. First appearances usually happen the following day after a suspect has been booked into jail, but Rachel says they had time to fit him in and turning himself in had nothing to do with getting him in so quickly.
Brown is currently booked in the Bibb County LEC and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and a state court probation violation.
