Early Morning Blaze Erupts at Gas Station in East Macon
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A Macon Water Authority truck caught fire at gas station in east Macon today, after another a pick-up truck slammed into a gas pump and it burst into flames.
Macon police say the incident happened around 7:45 am at Lucky Food Mart on the corner of Gray Highway and Shurling Drive.
Workers at the store told 41NBC the MWA truck was parked at pump number five and the driver was inside at the time of the collision. One worker told us a Dodge Ram turned into the parking lot, and slammed into pump seven. That pump caught on fire, and it spread to the MWA truck.
“I’m very glad that we don’t have enough gas in the, under the tank, otherwise the whole gas station was gone, even I was to die. I can’t run out the store,” says cashier Atul Modi, Lucky’s Food Mart.
The driver of the Dodge Ram told police he was stopped at a traffic light in the far left lane preparing to turn onto Gray Highway. When he put his foot on the gas, his car hydroplaned and he lost control. That’s when he car slid into the Lucky Mart Parking lot.
