Adoptable Pets Available For Low Cost This Weekend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two local college students are trying to make adoptable animals affordable this holiday season.

The Mercer students recently held a fundraiser for homeless people and pets.

The duo went around to local businesses to raise money for Loaves and Fishes and to sponsor pet adoptions at Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare through Saturday.

That means you can adopt a pet for free.  All you have to pay is a $50 spay/neuter fee, which will be refunded to you once you get your pet fixed.

One of the students, Cassie Hensel, says the support from the community has been overwhelming.

“My friend and I were basically brain-storming how we were going to give back to the community, because we both wanted to do service projects, sort of just to end the year on a good note I guess,” says Hensel.  “He’s a volunteer at Loaves and Fishes, and I volunteer here at the shelter, and I just really wanted to put together something that I felt like I could do well to benefit a place that I believe in.”

If you want to take advantage of the low cost to get a pet this holiday season, visit the shelter Saturday from 11-4.

If there are still funds available after Saturday, the sale will last as long as possible.

Call the shelter at 751-9200 for more information.
