Friday Evening Fire Damages 2 Macon Apartments

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An apartment fire in Macon left two families homeless Friday night.

It started around 5:30 in a lower level unit at English Village Apartments on English Avenue.

According to Donnie Mercer with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department, it appears to have started in a kitchen area, but officials are still working to determine the cause.

Mercer tells 41NBC the family from that unit and the one above it all got out safely, but both are now without homes.

The Macon-Bibb Fire Department says all families but the two in the fire-damaged homes have now returned home.  Those two families are being helped by the Red Cross.
