Macon Man Dies After Leading Trooper on High Speed Chase

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man is dead after he led police on a high speed chase in north Macon early Sunday morning.

According to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, a state trooper pulled over 27-year-old Herbert Simpson III on I-75 North. Simpson sped off in his Chevy Tahoe as the trooper approached the car. The trooper used the pit maneuver which caused the suspect to spin out of control. Jones said, the SUV then flipped and killed Simpson. He was pronounced dead near the Lullwater at Bass Apartments.

The Georgia State Patrol’s specialized accident team is investigating this incident.  An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.
