Warner Robins Lions Club Moves Forward with Park for Children with Disabilities

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Warner Robins Lions Club is one step closer to developing a handicapped-accessible park.

On Monday night, Warner Robins City Council approved to lease land to the club. The park will be located at the intersection of Moody Road and Pleasant Hill Road. Warner Robins Lions Club Randall Dodd said this park has been four years in the making. Dodd and his members started planning in 2009 but because of elections, changes in council and other factors, the park got pushed back.

“It took this long,” Dodd said, “but we’re grateful that it’s finally a successful venture.”

Michael Murray and his wife live blocks away from the new park. Murray knows first hand the struggle handicap people face. Just two years ago, he lost both of his legs in a car accident.

“They can actually be kids again,” Murray, “get out and play cause that’s the thing for a child is to wanna play.”

Dodd said he plans to start cleaning up the lot soon but isn’t sure when construction will begin. He estimates the park will cost $300,000 and is confident local businesses and organizations will pitch in.
