Heating Assistance Available for Bibb County Residents

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — There is good news for middle Georgians in need of heating assistance this winter. The Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council is ready to help.

Starting December 3rd, any Bibb County resident with a yearly household income less than or equal to 60% of the state median income, can qualify for heating help through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.

Macon-Bibb EOC Executive Director Jimmie Samuel said, “We don’t start our process until 7A.M. We’ll give out the numbers to the number of people we can serve that day and people will know within 30 minutes if they can be served.”

According to Samuel, $1.2 million is available for Bibb County – which should help about 3,000 households.

The dates to receive assistance are December 3, 7, 14, 15, 18, and 19 at the St. Paul AME Church located at 2501 Shurling Drive in Macon.

All applicants must provide a copy of their most recent energy bill, proof of household income for the last 30 days, a Georgia state issued ID, and valid social security card for all household members.
