Robins Air Force Base Celebrates Blue Star Memorial Marker

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A Blue Star Memorial Marker now stands at the Museum of Aviation, honoring the men and women of the Armed Forces.

The Camelia District of the Garden Club of Georgia provided the marker to Robins Air Force Base during a ceremony Friday morning. The markers date back to 1946, and are a way of honoring the service of men and women who served in World War II.

Major General Cornelius “Newt” Nugteren served as the commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center from 1982 to 1988. He said the ceremony was extra special for him.

“For all the visitors that come, there’s no place around where more visitors will pass than at this place, so I’m really grateful that they decided to not just put it on highways but put it at museums and other places so we could have one here at Robins Air Force Base,” said Major General Nugteren.

There are more than 2,300 markers nationwide, with 142 now in Georgia. The marker dedicated during Friday’s tribute is located next to the sidewalk in front of Hangar One.
