Milledgeville Woman Demanding City Fix Her Home

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Milledgeville woman who got a government grant to repair her home is demanding the city return and do the job right.

41 NBC first reported Mary Wesley had problems with her home in July that led her to call on the city for help, but those most recent repairs are falling apart.

Wesley says her home still needs a lot of work even though the city hired contractor supposedly fixed the problems back in July.

“It’s just been one thing after another. The house is still cracking,” she said. “The stuff that they suppose to fix is still falling down and it’s getting worse.”

A pipe broke four months and caused major flooding. She says the city didn’t step in to repair the water damage until 41 NBC reported the problem. But even when the contractor showed up, she says he didn’t do his job.

“All this contractor did was throw this stuff together,’ Wesley said. “Everybody is patching up stuff and nobody is replacing anything.”

You can see some of the repairs around her home. Wesley was told the contractor would be back to finish the job, but he never came. Her floors are cracking, there’s mold, and the homes’ foundation is slowly slipping away.

“The longer we stay in this house the more damage is going to come. It’s [the foundation] shifting…its going to fall apart. Either the roof is going to come in or the floor is going to knock us out of here,” she said.

Wesley tried calling the contractor, but her calls were sent to voicemail. She’s even reached out to the city of Milledgeville for help, but she feels like no one is listening.

“We are in danger and somebody needs to help us,” she said.

It’s a desperate plea, all in the hope that the city will come back and finish the job that it started.

41 NBC reached out to the Milledgeville City Manager to find out if he knew when the contractor would be back to finish the job, a call was not immediately returned.
