Bibb County Commissioners Discuss Proposed Spay/Neuter Law

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Commissioners met on Tuesday to further discuss the possibilities of a countywide spay and neuter law.

The proposed ordinance would require all dogs and cats in Macon and Bibb County to be spayed or neutered. Violators of the law would be fined. Bibb County Commissioner Bert Bivins hopes that if passed, the law will create more responsible pet owners. But in order to do that, city leaders must first write a law that is enforceable and resonable.

“One of the ways to reduce the number of animals going to the animal shelter is to have a spay and neutering program,” Bivins said after Tuesday’s commissioners meeting.

Bivins said commissioners discussed offering educational programs and lowering the costs of spaying and neutering. 41 NBC will have more on this story tonight at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.
