MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Monday marked the first day of classes for student’s at Bibb County’s newest alternative school. This one focuses on getting elementary students who mayhave slipped through the cracks back on track before it is too late.

It’s the first day of school and a second chance for these students.

“[They’ve] fallen through the cracks and have just been pushed along or pushed to the side,” Alisha Allen-Carter, director of the alternative education program at Bibb schools, said.

But not any longer. The Bibb Academy of Excellence at Barden Elementary opened its doors for its first class of students on Monday. Allen-Carter says the new school comes after the district heard an outcry for help.
