‘Power Of Change’ Donation Stations Get Installed Downtown Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Looking like a parking meter placed throughout downtown Macon, the 2012 Class of Leadership Macon, crowned the finishing touches on its Donation Stations.

The stations are meant to be an easy way for walkers and those passing by, to drop loose change in the meter, to help support the Macon Coalition to End Homelessness.

The Coalition’s Chairperson, June O’Neal, explains the meters will not only help those who are homeless, the change will go toward any organization who applies for the funding, who’s mission is to help those who face difficult circumstances.

“We want children to have a roof over their head. We want parents who are not at work, not to be worried about where their next meal is coming from,” O’Neal says.

The money will be used to help organizations provide meals, transportation, groceries, even temporary housing for individuals who need it most.

The meters, placed selectively around downtown, also come equipped with the latest technology. An electronic chip is placed inside each one, to track how much money is coming in from each station.
