Crawford Co. Deputies Investigating Fatal Hunting Accident
CRAWFORD COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Crawford County sheriff’s deputies and the Department of Natural Resources are investigating a hunting accident that killed a young man Thursday night.
According to a news release, a person was shot on November 1st at approximately 7:34 pm on Lindsey Road near the Monroe County line. Crawford County Coroner Allen O’Neal tells 41 NBC a father accidentally shot his son during a hunting incident.
Randy Stone says his brother, Patrick Stone, was in a tree stand hunting when he saw his son, 22-year-old Nathan Stone, in the wooded area.
“For some reason my nephew come running down the road right at dark and he wasn’t suppose to be there,” Stone said. “He [Patrtick Stone] swore it looked like a deer and he shot and he hollered and got down and got to him as quick as he could.”
Stone says his brother performed CPR on his son until an ambulance arrived and took the young man to Monroe County Hospital where he later died.
“It’s just horrible, I feel for him,” Stone said.
Investigators with the Department of Natural Resources are working the case as a hunting incident. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
No word yet if the father will face any charges.
