Jailhouse Artists Display Work in Fort Valley

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Jailhouse Alley Art Center held its 45th Annual Show this Saturday.

The group got its start and its name from painting in the alley of the old jailhouse in Fort Valley back in 1967. What started out as a group of friends in with a love for art, has blossomed into a full on art show.

“We like to think it’s a service for the community because to me art is beauty,” said JAAC President Margaret Mathews, “we like to think we produce that for the community so they can have something to enjoy.”

The show featured local art including oil paintings, hand painted pillows, stationary and pottery. The group meets every Thursday at old Fort Valley High School and anyone is welcome to join.
