Twila Faye’s Tea Room: Homemade Everything

BOLINGBROKE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A hundred years, that is how long the actual building belonging to Twila Faye’s Tea Room has been in existence.

Owner Mike Dunlap said, “The building has been around since 1914.”

When you walk into Twila Faye’s Tea Room it’s like taking a trip down memory lane for some customers.

“It’s quaint, it’s cozy, you’ve got great service, a personal touch actually,” said regular Cathie Resseau.

An original telephone booth from the 1940’s, vintage tea cups, and family pictures from generations passed are all part of the dining experience and customers all seem to indulge in the nostalgia. Twila Faye Dunlap and her husband Mike have owned the tea room for 12 years, it’s become their second home.

“Just getting everything ready and making sure everything is right and I love my customers, we’ve had repeat customers for 16 years,” said Twila.

Everything on the menu is homemade, from the chicken salad to the milkshakes. The praline pie is no exception.

Customer Suzanne Newman said, “It is to die for, especially with some vanilla ice cream on top of it, warm it up a little bit.”

It’s half a cup of oatmeal, half a cup of pecans and 2 teaspoons of whole wheat flour toasted in the oven. Then it’s butter, three different sugars, eggs, baking powder, salt and vanilla – mixed well and poured over the toasted mixture.

It isn’t just sticky-sweet, it’s to die for.

Twila Faye’s Tea Room is located on U.S. Highway 41 South in Bolingbroke. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 11-3PM, Saturday 11-4PM, and Friday 5-8:30PM.
