Central State Hospital RDA Moves Onto Campus, Brings New Ideas for Repurposing Grounds

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Today, the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority officially opened their offices in the Powell Building right in the center of campus.

Members say they’re committed to finding the right fit for the empty buildings on the grounds.

“We’ve got over 1900 acres I’ve got two hundred buildings, what’s the best and right use for those buildings?” says Mike Couch, Interim Director of the RDA.

In 2008 a plan was presented by Georgia College and State University to turn the grounds into a center for rural health care delivery.

Chairwoman of the RDA, Quay Fuller says that idea’s not off the table, but with the recent “change of hands” over at GCSU, comes a change in direction for the overall vision of this campus.
