NewTown Macon Announces Results of Phase II of Revitalization Plan at Annual Meeting

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – More than $125,000,000 has been invested in building renovations and new construction in Macon since 2007.

NewTown Macon made the announcement at its annual meeting Wednesday downtown.

During the five-year-long second phase of the organization’s revitalization plan, more than 80 new businesses, restaurants and shops were added as part of NewTown Macon’s plan to make downtown a regional hub.

Another goal in the second phase was to add 1,000 new residents to the area.

“The first project is the 377 Cotton Avenue Lofts,” says Mike Ford, CEO of NewTown Macon.  “They are 99% complete and pre-leased; all six lofts are leased.  The next project will be on about the same schedule as the Dannenberg and that’s 401 Cherry Street.  There’ll be 20 lofts, all furnished.  The first furnished lofts we’ve had downtown in Macon.

The Dannenberg Project will add 70 lofts, plus commercial space to downtown.  Wednesday, NewTown Macon gave tours of the Dannenberg Lofts.

In the third phase of the revitalization project, the organization plans to take a targeted approach to growing population, businesses and activity in different areas of downtown.
