UPDATE: Cherry Blossom Festival President Resigns, Chairs Not Worried About 2013’s Party

MACON, Ga. (41NBC/WMGT)- After just four months on the job, the President and CEO of the Cherry Blossom Festival called it quits.

Richard Brewer resigned from his role Tuesday night, but chairman of the festival Board, George McCanless says despite the loss, “the pinkest party on earth” will go off without a hitch in March 2013.

“The Cherry Blossom Festival is far bigger than one person… We’ve got a very strong board of directors in place that are ready, willing, and able to help whenever,” says McCanless.

McCanless says Brewer’s decision was brought on by family ties. He was commuting between Macon and Charleston, South Carolina. The distance drove him home.

“He decided that it would be best for him to go back to Charleston where his family was and his grandchildren are,” says McCanless.
