Coroner: Cook Killed by Asphyxia in Homicide
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones tells 41NBC an autopsy today revealed that Christine Cook died in of asphyxia as the result of a homicide. The elderly woman was found dead in her home early Thursday morning.
According to Jones, officials were called to 2923 General Lee Road to perform a welfare check around 1am Thursday. Investigators have remained camped out at the residence since then.
Ruth Rowell who has lived across the street from Cook for more than a decade says her neighbor was healthy. She told 41NBC that on Tuesday night, Cook called her to tell her she fell and hurt her head and hip.
“She was perfectly lucid, and was looking forward to watching the presidential debate, and then exprected to go to the doctor the next morning. So everything just seemed as usual,” says Rowell.
Neighbors also told 41NBC, detectives were asking about a car that was parked on the corner of Pickett Ridge Road. That’s just a block away from Cook’s home. MPD would not elaborate.
