Human Trafficking In Georgia
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)-The Hephzibah Children’s Home in Macon held its Human Trafficking Response Conference today in hopes of bringing awareness to the problem. The Senior Assistant District Attorney of Houston County was just one of the guest speakers. In Georgia, 300 to 500 girls are exploited each month.
More than 7200 men per month buy sex from adolescents. The average age of entry into the commercial sex industry is 12 to 13 years old.CEO of Hephzibah Ministries, C.K. Chitty hopes conferences like this will give people a better understanding of human trafficking.
“There are 2 or 3 things we would hope people would gain from this conference. Number one would be just an awareness of the challenge that exists. Number two would be some specific things that they would know in their day to day life to help identify people who might be victims of human trafficking,” said C.K. Chitty.
Chitty also said 100,000 to 300,000 youth in the U.S are at risk of human trafficking.
