UPDATE: Woman was at Family Foods Store Moments Before Shooting; Injured Teen in Stable Condition
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) –
Police are still trying to find the person who shot a man in the leg at a macon gas station last night.
It happened just before 9 pm at the Family Food store on Montpelier Avenue. 18-year-old Taubius Mullins was taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia, and is listed in stable condition.
The front of the store was damaged with several bullet holes. 41NBC spoke to residents nearby, who say they’re used to this type of incident in this neighborhood. One woman named Bernice’s niece was shot and killed near there just last memorial day, so Sunday night’s shooting brings back terrifying memories.
She was at the store just minutes before the bullets started flying–dangerously close to being at the wrong place at the wrong time, just like she says her niece was.
“I saw the young guys standing in front of the store, and I told my husband I said ‘I ain’t never seen them young boys before–they awful young,'” says Bernice, “So when I got in the house, it wasn’t ten minutes later, I was in the bedroom and I heard gunshots, about six gunshots…that’s when I hit the floor.”
“I was down there when I just heard ‘bap bap bap bap bap’and I just went ‘get me outta here…” so I just went and hide,” says Taquin George, who lives nearby.
