Season Finale of Wild With Kyle Speeds To A Dramatic Finish
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Five weeks. Five stories. This last one is the one that made me the most scared. Sure I’ve jumped out of an airplane. Sure I went face to face with a 40 foot fish. But this one truly had me nervous something might happen.
I spent my Saturday at Lake Allatoona in Woodstock. I met a guy named Tim Speer. He owns Pro Boat, a company that builds boats and boat engines. Very fast boats, and very powerful engines. In fact, the engines produce roughly 800 horsepower (no that is NOT a typo). The boats hit 100 miles per hour in less than 800 feet (that’s not a typo either).
Tim, said he would let me drive one.
Tim promised me these boats were built to actually go faster than 100 mph, so we would be very safe with our adventure. I trusted him, but I still was a little leery. However, this is what I had to do, to get the story, so I put my trust in his boat-making abilities, and away we went.
He wasn’t kidding. Tim started driving, teaching me the ropes and getting a feel for how the boat handles. Going from 0 to 100 in about 5 seconds, planted me in the back of my seat.
I screamed. A lot.
Once we came to a stop, we switched seats, and it was my turn to take the wheel. Let me tell you, driving a boat 100 mph, is completely different than driving a car 100 miles an hour. Completely. There is no windshield, we are sitting only a few inches above the water, and these boats just scream to go fast.
We stopped, I wiped the tears away from my eyes, I caught my breath from screaming, and Tim looked at me and asked if I wanted to feel what the boats could really do.
Of course, I obliged him.
Two of Tim’s friends were out on the lake with us for the morning ride in their boats, so the three of us lined up, and on a count of 3, we all took off. Three, 800 horsepower boats, all of which can hit speeds of 100+mph in a matter of a few seconds, took off at once for an impromptu drag race across the lake. Talk about a rush.
The boat engines screamed, I screamed and cried (just a little), and Tim laughed at me.
To finish, I need to say thank you to Tim and his crew at ProBoat, and apologize to the fisherman out on the lake that Saturday morning.
So that’s another year of Wild With Kyle wrapped up. No doubt about it, I ended it on a high note. I hope you enjoyed watching them, as much as I enjoyed putting them together.
If you have a challenge you think I cannot master, a task you think too tall an order for me to fill, let me know about it. Send me an email, to kwarnke@41nbc.com. I’ll wager there’s got to be something out there that is too wild, even for me to do (maybe).
