Local Group Helps Disabled Find Jobs And Live Fulfill Life
DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – October is National Disability Employment Awareness month. There is an organization here in Middle Georgia whose mission isn’t just to help the disabled during this month but rather everyday and help give these people the chance to live a fulfilling life.
The Easter Seals of Middle Georgia helps hundreds of disabled people by providing them the tools they need to get a job and live like everyone else.
For Marcus Braddy, it’s just another day on the job at American Homes in Dublin.
“I’m always moving,” Brady said. “When I’m at work I’m always trying to find something to do.”
You couldn’t tell by looking at him that there is something different about him.
“A lot of people don’t know I’ve got a disability. It takes a lot to deal with people like me,” he said. “If it weren’t for them people like me wouldn’t have jobs.”
Braddy went to the Easter Seals of Middle Georgia to get help. This groups gives anyone with any kind of disability the chance to find jobs and make a living.
“You know how important your job is to you,” Ralph Donaldson with the Easter Seals of Middle Georgia said. “If you couldn’t get a job or couldn’t keep a job because of a disability, you can understand how different your life would be and it wouldn’t be better.”
Donaldson says 300 employees work at the Easter Seals warehouse in Dublin and most of them are disabled. He says these jobs range from building custom made lamps, making dress shirts for service women and even building parts for airplanes that are installed at Robins Air Force Base.
“They feel better about themselves because of what they’re doing and because what they’re doing is what everybody else is doing,” Donaldson said. “You will find that people with disabilities really want just one thing. They want to be like everybody else.”
Easter Seals of Middle Georgia started back in 1976. Since then, it has helped thousands of people get jobs and live a full life.
