Large Turnout for Ocmulgee Indian Celebration
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – More than 18,000 people attended this year’s Ocmulgee Indian Celebration. Ocmulgee National Monument Superintendent Jim David says it’s the biggest turnout in the event’s history.
Park officials are still working to tally the the numbers. David believes the variety of native dancers, storytellers and musicians are drawing the large crowds.
“We’re always trying to find a few new things for the folks who come here every year. But we are also trying to find new things for folks who haven’t been,” David said.
The event is meant to educate and entertain the public about the Native American culture. In the future, David says they will do more advertising, demonstrations and re-enactments.
This year was the Ocmulgee’s 21st celebration.
