Wild With Kyle Continues With Savannah Fishing Trip
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Week Three of Wild With Kyle, took me to Georgia’s coastline in Savannah, to see what I could hook while fishing.
Thanks to Miss Judy Charters of Savannah, for letting me tag along for a day of fishing.
For this trip, we stayed in-shore. I boarded the 22 foot vessel was captained by Alan Collins, who assured me he knew exactly where to find the hungry Red Fish we were after.
Collins wasn’t kidding.
After a couple practice casts, I had Red Fish biting nearly every time I set a line out. We used live shrimp for bait, and the fish kept hitting.
So what’s wild about this? Try fighting to bring in a Red Fish. When you’re really not much of a fisherman. And you’ve never done any ocean fishing.
Red Fish aren’t fish who just roll over and let you reel them in. Every catch took several minutes to bring in. They might stop fighting for a few seconds, so just when you think you have it won over, it takes off again and brings you around to the other side of the boat.
This trip for us was a ‘catch and release’ type trip. The biggest fish on line, measured out to be 30.5 inches, and weighed a little over 11 pounds. That guy didn’t come easy. He fought right up until we hauled him in the boat.
In addition to having fun in the sun and catching the Red Fish, we were visited by a couple of dolphins, who were a little curious about what we were doing in their hunting territory. Fortunately, they left us alone and continued on their way.
Fish after fish, the Red Fish kept hitting. There was no shortage of a good time for this adventure. Sure I wasn’t riding a roller coaster 101 times, or jumping out of an airplane. But what an awesome adventure! Next time you are in Savannah, look up Miss Judy Charters. Tell Captain Judy and Captain Collins I sent you. They’ll show you exactly where to go, to haul in your next trophy catch!
