Mosquitoes Favorite Breeding Ground
MACON , Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Mosquitoes are becoming a big problem nationwide, and the spread of the West Nile virus has caused officials to try to figure out ways to stop the spread
of the deadly disease. There are several places mosquitoes can breed. Recently, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said that is possible for mosquitoes to breed inside your home.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, house plants such as “Lucky Bamboo” grown in pebbles and water can serve as a place for mosquitoes to lay their eggs. Unused toilets in guest bedrooms can also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Arrow Extermination Service Manager Ben Tallent said that it is very rare to find mosquitoes breeding inside your home, but there are places that you can look to prevent them from getting too close to your home.
‘Bird baths, little wading pools for kids, swimming pools that haven’t been covered that may sit there…the water is not moving, so they are going to sit in that water. And that’s where they are going to do their breeding. Low-line areas in the yard…you know the ditch that doesn’t run off very fast,” said Tallent.
Tallent said to make sure that you get rid of standing water in and around your house. For more information on preventative methods, you can call Arrow Extermination at 478-471-8571
