Bibb County Schools Prepare for the Macon Miracle
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The start of the new year for the Bibb County School District means the implementation of the Macon Miracle and Superintendent Dr. Romain Dallemand says “he believes in miracles”.
Teachers and staff spent Friday morning at the Bibb County School System’s Convocation Ceremony. This year’s theme “Believing in Miracles”.
After months of reviewing the 86 page plan, the Macon Miracle will soon be a reality. Initiatives include the potential for year round school, additional alternative schools and Mandarin Chinese courses for elementary students.
Despite the controversy surrounding Dallemand and the Macon Miracle, he stated that he is ready to put the plan into action.
“The Macon Miracle provides the road map to guide our efforts,” Dallemand said.
Dallemand wants Bibb County to continue to grow. Throughout his speech, he stated that enrollment is up in the school system.
Board Member Susan Middleton is also revved up for the first day of school. She said the changes are a reflection of the new generation.
“We have to evolve with the students,” Middleton said.
Middleton also said that the Macon Miracle has been a learning process.
“It’s a broken system and so you don’t just magically change a system, so all of these pieces matter,” Middleton said.
Nearly 3,000 teachers and staff attended the convocation ceremony at the Centreplex.
The convocation guest speaker Kati Haycock was unable to attend ceremony due to weather delays.
The first day of school is August 13.
