Scott’s BBQ In Cochran Talks Ribs And Rubs
COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Doug Kitchens became the owner of Scott’s BBQ in 1998. The restaurant opened in 1952 by Kitchens’ father-in-law’s uncle, Scott Mullis.
“I grew up on a farm and had no idea that I’d ever have a restaurant, it just kind of worked out that way,” according to Kitchens.
The family owned and operated business is no doubt, a neighborhood favorite.
Customer Jackie Holden says, “It’s a gold mine.”
Kitchens thanks regular customers like Holden for the success of his business. “We have a lot of good customers, a lot of local people, a lot of friends and they’ve been real good to us.”
Most of Kitchens’ customers dine in at least two or three times a week. They say it’s the flavor of the meat that has stood the test of time.
“The flavor is consistent, it’s always the same, it’s always good,” says customer Chuck Wadell.
Almost everything on the menu is cooked on a pit. Kitchens says, “It’s got a dirt bottom in it, we still burn the wood down, we put the coals under the meat that’s where we get our heat from and our smoke comes from the drippings on the coal.”
Fans of the restaurant all say you can’t go wrong with the ribs.
Eric Witherington says, “For supper it’s usually the ribs, I love the ribs, I want the ribs.”
LeighAnne Fisher agrees, “It’s tender, never dry, always moist, great flavor.”
Scott’s BBQ is located 425 Hwy 87 North, Cochran, GA 31014.
