Macon Appropriations Committee Working for Equal Opportunity for Women and Minorities

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Members of the Macon City Council Appropriations Committee threw out ideas tonight to further promote the use of the new equal opportunity law in regards to city projects. The change to the city code went into effect in March. It ensures local minority and women participation in SPLOST projects.

“Everybody has reaffirmed their commitment to making sure that not only do we do business with local folks, but that we do business with minority business owners and female owned businesses,” says Councilwoman Elaine Lucas.

Lucas says they are working to contact and advertise to woman and minority business owners. She also recommended holding a public meeting to inform contractors on the process of putting bids in for city projects.
