Macon City Leaders Working to Keep City Projects Local

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon City Council and Mayor Robert Reichert are working to make sure local contractors and businesses are given a little extra preference when it comes to city projects.

The current city law stipulates when a bid goes out the lowest bidder wins. The appropriations committee approved a change that gives local businesses a 5% advantage. If the bid comes within that percentage of the lowest bidder, they win the project. If the amendment passes through full council, the new law would also apply to any contracts involving SPLOST funds.
