Bleckley County Woman Celebrates 103rd Birthday
COCHRAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Virginia Hallett was born and raised in Cochran, Georgia.
Hallett says, “I couldn’t have been blessed better.”
She was born on April 19th, 1909. A century and three years later, Hallett is still counting her blessings.
“Well everybody has been mighty good to me, I’ve got two of the best children in the world and they married two good people in the world, they’ve all been so good to me,” Hallett says with a smile.
Hallett’s secret to a long life is simple. She says, “Just be good, I reckon’…”
For Hallett, being good started at an early age. She thanks growing up in the church.
“I feel like if we hadn’t been raised in the church, I wouldn’t be as good as I am…and I’m not that good, but I was raised in the church and I’m proud of that.”
Her faith always remains.
“I spend more time in prayer now that I did when I was younger….every day and every night I pray, I sure do…I couldn’t get along without talking to the Lord,” says Hallett.
She says she prays for herself, her daughter Adair, Adair’s husband Jerry, her son Wyndell and his wife Nell. She prays for her church and her pastors Bob Price and Lane Collins and her friends at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Hallett adds, “…and whatever else comes to mind.”
At the end of the day, there’s not a thing she would change.
“I’m right where I want to be.”
