New Sex Ed Program Coming to Houston County Elementary Schools
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Elementary students in Houston County will participate in a new sex education program next school year. At a school board meeting on Tuesday, board members unanimously approved two programs after a special sex education committee made up of counselors, parents, and students found the current materials outdated.
The programs will consist of 2 DVDs called Child Lure Prevention Program: Think First and Stay Safe, and Sexual Harassment-It’s Your Body: You’re in Charge.
The instructional DVDs focus on stopping children from being abducted or sexually assaulted. The new sex educational program will involve workbooks and situational occurrences.
Board members tell 41 NBC these changes were needed in the schools. The new curriculum will cost the school system $11,015.85 to implement. Money to pay for the program will come out of the school system’s general fund.
