Prom Reenactment Serves As Warning For Teens

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The campus of Jones County High School looked like something out of a crime scene.

Juniors and seniors got to see firsthand how a dazzling night could turn tragic if they engage in careless activities. Students watched as emergency dispatchers and law enforcement cleared a scene that killed the prom queen and injured several others.

This is the fifth year that the Jones County and Fire Rescue put on the reenactment in hopes that students don’t use drugs and alcohol, and wear their seatbelts.

“The main purpose is to drive home to the seniors that we want them to have fun on prom night and on their graduation but we want them to be smart, to stop and seriously think about the consequences,” says Captain Keith Hollingsworth with the Jones County Fire and Rescue.

Students say this experience is one that will stay in their minds on prom night.

Jones County High Senior Kaleb Deason says, “Watching this, I will put my seatbelt on, safety first, no drinking no driving. If you do something like that don’t get in a vehicle.”

Hollingsworth says since the department started this initiative there have been no tragic accidents on prom night.
