Final Weekend Before Tax Deadline

MACON,Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The deadline to file your federal tax return is getting closer, but you have two extra days to get the job done this year. Each year millions of Americans file their federal tax returns. This year, the deadline for filing is Tuesday, April 17th. If you feel that you might not make the April 17th deadline, you can avoid late filing penalties by requesting a tax-filing extension by midnight on Tuesday.

Office Leader of H&R Block on Pio Nono Avenue Ed Haines says there are some deductions people might not know about.

“The one they miss most is the educational credit for kids in college. They can make a deduction for that which will help lower there income,” said Haines.

If you are unable to pay your taxes in full by the April 17th deadline, payment agreements and other relief are usually available and can even be requested online according to the IRS’s website.
