2012 Masters Tournament Forecast
As we enter Day 2 of the Practice Round, it’s time to delve into your forecast for this years Masters Tournament.
Who will go home wearing a Green Jacket this year? Well, that’s yet to be determined, but even if your favorite golfer isn’t doing so hot, I can at least help you out with your wardrobe for the week.
Tuesday, Practice Round: Not much in the way of sunshine is forecasted for Augusta National today. In fact, as I look at the satellite imagery, I’m only seeing a few breaks in the clouds. Filtered pockets of sunshine aren’t out of the question though, and it’ll be quite warm! Temperatures in Augusta are usually in the mid 70s this time of the year, but expect the low 80s today. Isolated showers and storms are also possible this afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Wednesday, Par 3 Contest: Gates open at 8:00 AM, with the mercury in the low 60s. Spotty showers are possible in the morning, but your better chance of rain is after lunchtime. The Par 3 Contest starts around 12:30 PM, so you’ll want to have your umbrella handy. Expect a partly sunny day at Augusta National, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs will be a little warmer, as we’ll climb to the mid 80s. A light breeze is expected, with winds between 12 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. (I just learned this morning that no one who has ever won the Par 3 Contest has ever won the Masters!)
Thursday, Round 1: This won’t be the best day for golf…or anything outdoors! Although highs will be more seasonal (Mid 70s), scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the day and evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Friday, Round 2: The song and dance continues! Rain and storms are likely again on Friday, but mainly in the morning. Otherwise, we’re mostly cloudy and cooler with highs in the upper 60s. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Saturday, Round 3: If I had to pick a day all week (Obviously aside from Sunday) to head to Augusta, this would be it! Saturday is as close to perfect as it gets. Abundant sunshine will stream through the towering pines of Augusta National (I can already see it in my mind’s eye!), as highs climb to the low 70s.
Sunday, Final Round: Mother Nature will shine on the storied golf course once again! Highs will rebound for this last day of the tournament, as the mercury climbs to the upper 70s.
According to the Southeast Regional Climate Center, there have been “five years of the seventy-five contested that had to be finished on Monday due to weather.” The last time that happened was 1983. Should the tournament be extended into Monday, we can expect a mostly clear sky, with highs back in the upper 70s.
