Mercer in Talks With State to Buy Music Hall
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Mercer University is in talks with the state to adopt the Georgia Music Hall of Fame building.
The Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the university, Larry Brumley, says they set their sights on the building as soon as the hall closed last summer. He tells us the building is a perfect place for the school to house part of their growing health science program.
“It’s an opportunity for the university to acquire a facility that’s in good condition to expand our health science program and also avoid having a vacant building downtown in a prominent location,” says Brumley.
In order for the university to obtain the building, a resolution must pass in the Georgia General Assembly that asks the state to declare the building a surplus. After that, the Senate needs to approve it. Then Governor Nathan Deal needs to sign off before the sale can go through.
