The program, called Better Together Circles: Healing After Loss, is open to mothers who have lost a child at any age or under any circumstances.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia is offering a free 10-week healing program for mothers who have experienced the loss of a child.
The program, called Better Together Circles: Healing After Loss, is open to mothers who have lost a child at any age or under any circumstances.
The Family Counseling Center, a Macon Violence Prevention program partner, will host an information session Wednesday, October 21, at 5:30 p.m. at its office at 277 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Suite 202, in Macon.
Attendance at the information session is not required to register for the program.
According to the organization, the program is designed to support mothers who have experienced loss through miscarriage, illness, accidents, homicide, suicide, overdose or other circumstances.
The program will be facilitated by Dr. Deirtre Cotton, founder of Better After Being Broken LLC and creator of the Broken to Better Transformation Framework.
Cotton has more than 30 years of experience supporting individuals and families through grief, trauma, addiction and emotional healing. She also has personal experience with the loss of a child.
Participants will meet on Monday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Family Counseling Center. The program’s start date has not yet been determined and will be discussed with the first group of participants.
Each group will be limited to 18 mothers. If additional participants register, organizers plan to establish a second group.
Throughout the 10-week program, mothers will have opportunities to connect with others who have experienced similar losses while learning ways to manage grief, difficult emotions, relationships and significant dates.
Sessions will include guided conversations, journaling, creative expression, remembrance activities and peer support.
Participants will not be required to share more than they feel comfortable discussing.
The program follows Cotton’s Broken to Better Transformation Framework, which focuses on acknowledging grief, emotional healing, personal growth and finding purpose while honoring the memory of a loved one.
The Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia was established in 1957 and provides counseling services to individuals, couples and families throughout the region.
The organization is also a partner in Macon Violence Prevention, a community initiative focused on reducing violence and strengthening neighborhoods.
Anyone interested in participating in the free program can attend the October 21 information session or contact the Family Counseling Center of Central Georgia at 478-745-2811.
