WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Warner Robins Police Department has been awarded a $115,923.20 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to support DUI enforcement and other traffic safety efforts.

The Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) grant was awarded for the 2027 federal fiscal year.

According to the city of Warner Robins, the H.E.A.T. program focuses on reducing crashes, injuries and fatalities caused by impaired driving and speeding. The program also aims to increase seat belt use and educate drivers about traffic safety.

The Warner Robins Police Department’s H.E.A.T. Unit will use the funding to develop and implement strategies aimed at reducing crashes caused by aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors.

“The safety of our residents is always a top priority, and this grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety allows our police department to continue taking proactive steps to ensure that everyone who lives in or visits Warner Robins can travel our roads more safely. We are proud to be part of a statewide effort to reduce dangerous driving behaviors and keep our community protected,” Warner Robins Mayor LaRhonda Patrick said.

H.E.A.T. grants fund specialized traffic enforcement units in counties across Georgia. The program was designed to assist jurisdictions with the highest rates of traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities. Grants are awarded based on impaired driving and speeding data.

“Federal and state crash data show sustained enforcement of traffic laws reduces crashes and saves lives on our roads,” Allen Poole, director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, said. “GOHS will continue to partner with state and local law enforcement to implement projects and initiatives designed to protect everyone using our roads and to help reach our goal of zero traffic deaths in Georgia and our nation.”

Warner Robins Police Chief Wayne Fisher said the department will focus on enforcement efforts involving DUI, distracted driving, speeding and occupant protection.

“The Warner Robins Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of the community we serve. Traffic enforcement efforts aim to reduce personal injuries and property damage caused by DUI, distracted driving, speeding, and occupant protection, which are a focus of this grant. The Warner Robins Police Department is appreciative of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for their support in these efforts,” Fisher said.

The department will also participate in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI campaign and Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign.

Those efforts will include high-visibility patrols, multi-jurisdictional road checks and sobriety checkpoints coordinated with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety throughout the year.
