(CNN)- Actress Selma Blair appeared in a New York City courtroom Monday on charges of second-degree assault following an alleged incident aboard a commercial flight from Los Angeles to New York on Sunday.

According to dispatch audio from ATC.com, medical personnel were requested to meet the flight when it arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The audio referenced reports of a bloody nose and bite marks, along with concerns that a disruptive passenger may have struck her head against a bulkhead.

Authorities said two flight attendants reported injuries, with one hospitalized for evaluation.

Prosecutors allege Blair kicked a Port Authority officer while being strapped into a stretcher. She is also accused of later kicking a nurse. Blair was taken into custody and hospitalized following the incident.

During Monday’s court appearance, Blair’s attorney argued that the alleged conduct resulted from a medical emergency rather than intentional criminal behavior. Her attorney said Blair had worked extensive hours on set before boarding the flight, fell and struck her head while on the plane, and missed her medication.

Blair did not enter a plea during the hearing.

In 2018, Blair publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, an incurable autoimmune disease affecting the central nervous system.

Blair’s attorney declined to comment to reporters outside the courthouse following Monday’s appearance.
