Macon Council Says Bibb Co. Should Pick Up Arts Alliance Funding
MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – Macon City Council rejects funding to the Macon Arts Alliance Monday night, saying Bibb County needs to pick up the tab.
The County is taking over the Arts Alliance in the service delivery agreement with the city, and it’s budgeted direct funding for the group for fiscal year 2012.
The funding up for debate is about 30-thousand dollars of ‘Grants for Services money,’ that slipped through the cracks in the county’s budgeting process.
Although this money is a small portion of their overall budget, Arts Alliance officials asked council for that money this year, because many youth programs depend on the funds.
“I certainly don’t think that the County Commissioners left it out intentionally this is a very worthy program that really works and provides fine arts events and training for some of the most at risk people in our community,” said Council Member, Lauren Benedict.
Benedict says the Mayor’s administration will contact the County, and request them to fund this portion of the Macon Arts Alliance.
