EPA Investigating Possible Contamination At Allied Industrial Park

MACON,Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)-The Environmental protection agency is investigating possible contamination at a Naval ordnance plant site in Macon. The EPA will have a meeting to discuss a proposal to include Allied Industrial Park to the National Priorities List.

According to the EPA, PCB and Trichloroethylene are contaminating the site. Trichloroethylene is a colorless, poisonous liquid used as a degreasing agent for metals and as a solvent.  If Allied Industrial Park is placed on the National Priorities List, the government agency called “Superfund” will be in charge of cleaning up the area.

The National Priorities List is a list of the nation’s uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.  The EPA and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division will provide more information about the site at a news conference.  The meeting will take place Thursday evening at 5:30pm.
