Meet Miss Central Georgia Nya Floyd: Platform, goals and future plans
Nya Floyd shares her journey, platform and what’s next after being crowned Miss Central Georgia.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Newly crowned Miss Central Georgia Naya Floyd is using her title to promote mentorship, education and community involvement across the region.
Floyd joined 41 Today to discuss earning the Miss Central Georgia title, her ties to the area and the community service initiative she plans to champion during her reign.
This is Floyd’s first year competing in the organization. She said she spent about a month preparing for the competition and relied on a personal motto throughout the process: “Wherever God plants you, bloom with grace.”
“I was planted in Macon, Georgia,” Floyd said. “Why not take this opportunity to grow and see where this organization can take me?”
Floyd’s connection to Macon dates back to her time as a high school wrestler. She said she helped start the first women’s wrestling team in DeKalb County and first competed in Macon at the Macon Coliseum as part of a boys wrestling team.
Floyd had planned to wrestle in college, but she said a serious car accident during her senior year changed those plans.
She later pursued higher education and is now working toward a master’s degree in animal science. Floyd previously earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture with a concentration in animal science and is conducting graduate research involving ovaries and embryos.
Her community service initiative, “The Game Plan,” stands for Graceful and Authentic Mentorship with Endless Support.
Floyd said mentorship is at the center of the initiative. As a first-generation college student, she credits a high school mentor with encouraging her to pursue higher education.
“I want to be the person that I needed when I was younger,” Floyd said.
Floyd said she hopes to use her title to guide young people and give back to the communities that have supported her, including Central Georgia, her hometown of Stonecrest and Fort Valley State University.
She said she is preparing to work with Big Brothers Big Sisters and has school appearances planned where she hopes to discuss topics including financial literacy and confidence.
Floyd said she is looking forward to expanding her community outreach while continuing to focus on mentorship and supporting young people during her time as Miss Central Georgia.
