Macon-Bibb celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with festivals, music and community events
National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15, but events in Macon-Bibb will continue through the end of October.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of events highlighting Hispanic and Latino cultures, traditions and contributions.
National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from September 15 through October 15, but events in Macon-Bibb will continue through the end of October.
The celebrations begin this weekend with Festival Latino 2026 on Sunday, September 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Smiley’s Flea Market, 6717 Hawkinsville Road.
The family-friendly event will feature live music, dancing, prizes and other activities. Organizers say Festival Latino is independently organized and is not affiliated with the Macon-Bibb Hispanic Festival.
Celebrations continue October 2 when the Macon-Bibb Hispanic Festival Committee joins NewTown Macon for First Friday at Poplar Street Park from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will include a live performance by Ritmo Soul and an appearance by Mirabel from “Encanto.”
Macon-Bibb County will officially recognize Hispanic Heritage Month during the County Commission meeting on October 6. Mayor Lester Miller is scheduled to read a proclamation recognizing the history, culture and contributions of the Hispanic and Latino community.
Additional events include a Latin music-themed Pilates class and evening of dancing at Hotel Forty Five on October 10, followed by a Hispanic Heritage Month event with Storytellers Macon at Grant’s Lounge on October 13.
The celebrations will culminate with the fifth annual Macon-Bibb Hispanic Festival on Saturday, October 24, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Cherry Street Plaza.
The free, family-friendly festival will feature live music and performances, dancing, food, children’s activities and community resources. More than 70 Hispanic-owned vendors and seven food trucks are expected to participate.
The Macon-Bibb Hispanic Festival began in 2022 as an effort to bring more members of the Hispanic community into downtown Macon and public spaces. Organizers say the event has grown into a community-wide celebration focused on sharing culture, supporting Hispanic-owned businesses and bringing people from different backgrounds together.
