Drone carrying marijuana, phones and tobacco intercepted near Johnson State Prison

WRIGHTSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Law enforcement officers intercepted a drone carrying marijuana, tobacco, cellphones and other contraband intended for Johnson State Prison early Thursday morning, according to the Wrightsville Police Department.

Police said the Wrightsville Police Department and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office were notified by 911 at about 3:10 a.m. September 24 after a caller reported seeing a drone near the prison.

Responding officers located and intercepted the delivery. Police said a large drone with a trash bag attached to it was confiscated along with a suspect vehicle.

According to the department, officers confiscated 6,985.3 grams of tobacco, 1,060 grams of marijuana, 14 phones, 10 earbuds, nine charging cords, seven charging blocks and 837.8 grams of an unknown liquid.

Officers also confiscated a tablet, smart charger and baby bottle.

Police are asking members of the public to report suspicious activity to law enforcement.
