Macon Lovebirds Happy To Celebrate Valentine’s Day Late This Year
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Lovebirds Shurlene Lately and Luis Rivera are celebrating Valentine’s Day a little late this year, but they aren’t complaining.
Last week, 41 NBC announced the winner of the “Get Out of the Dog House” contest. Lately’s letter was selected after she wrote about her boyfriend, Luis.
Lately explained in her letter that after recently paying for her daughter’s college graduation, she didn’t have enough money left to purchase a gift for Luis. She made him a Valentine’s Day card that he loved, but she felt just wasn’t enough.
“He had no idea, I never told him or anything and when I received your email confirming that I had won, he was cutting his hair and I ran into the bathroom and I said ‘Luis, guess what we won…you’re going to get some Valentine’s day gifts,” Lately says with a smile.
61-year-old Rivera is a former firefighter and Lately says he is always willing to lend a helping hand. She says the words she wrote in her letter came from the heart and just needed some help to show Luis just how much she loves him.
The happy couple received a new mattress set from Phillips Furniture and prizes from The Downtown Grill, Lawrence Mayer Florist, Wine Styles, and The Party Store.
