Warner Robins Little Theatre brings comedy ‘Birthday Club’ to the stage

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Warner Robins Little Theatre is preparing to bring laughter, friendship and a little bit of wine to the stage with its latest production, “Birthday Club.”
Dot Leach, president of Warner Robins Little Theatre, is stepping into a different role for the production as the show’s director.
“It’s a show about five women that get together on each other’s birthdays and they celebrate and have a good time, drink a lot of wine, a little bit of vodka, a little bit of each,” Leach said. “And they have the entertainment of celebrating their birthday, but talking about life, talking about things that are going on in each other’s world, a little bit of emotional stuff, so it can be a little heavy at times, but it’s fun.”
Leach said the combination of comedy, a female-centered cast and some more serious moments drew her to the production.
“Well, I like comedies. I like shows with women. I like doing something that’s got a little bit of bite to it. So this covers all those for me,” Leach said. “So I wanted to do it and present this to the audience so they could get something out of it and forget about life for a little bit, come in and laugh, take a couple hours and forget about their lives and join these five women in their lives.”
“Birthday Club” opens September 12 at Warner Robins Little Theatre on Pleasant Hill Road and runs through September 27. Eight performances are scheduled across three weekends, including evening performances and Sunday matinees.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased through the Warner Robins Little Theatre website. Audience members can select their seats when purchasing tickets, and Leach encouraged people to reserve early.
“I suggest you get your tickets early before it sells out,” Leach said.
Beyond “Birthday Club,” Leach said the theater continues working to make the arts accessible to people throughout Warner Robins and Middle Georgia.
“Oh, it is so important. It really is. Art in Middle Georgia is just something that’s just important because you don’t get a lot of that,” Leach said. “You get to football games and all of that, but art is just important, and it’s something that kids can get involved in.”
The theater also offers opportunities for community members to participate through auditions, volunteering and other programs, including a summer camp for children.
The next production will be “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” Auditions are scheduled for September 13 and 14.
“Come out and audition. Come out and be backstage. You know, volunteer. It’s important to do these things. Get out of your house and get involved,” Leach said.
