Republican nominee Rick Jackson outlines priorities at Perry rally
Former Gov. Sonny Perdue endorsed Jackson, while Houston County Democratic Party Chair Kristen Kiefer criticized Jackson’s business dealings with the state.
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Republican gubernatorial nominee Rick Jackson spoke to supporters in Perry Friday, outlining his priorities on affordability, education, health care, public safety and government accountability.
Jackson said Georgians are facing higher costs for groceries, gas, insurance and housing. He said that, if elected governor, he would work to lower costs and make health care more affordable.
“As your governor I will protect taxpayers, I will demand accountability, I will work to lower costs, I will build stronger schools, I’ll make health care more affordable, I will support safe communities, I will create opportunity in every part of Georgia, and I will take on the career politicians in both parties who stand in the way,” Jackson said. “Every single day I will work for you.”
Jackson also focused on character and public trust, criticizing his Democratic opponent, Keisha Lance Bottoms.
“The issue in this race is not personality, it’s a public trust,” he said. “My opponent has a record, and as the old football coach in me will tell you, you are who your record says you are.”
Several elected officials attended the rally, including former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, who endorsed Jackson.
Jackson will face Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms in the November 3 general election.
The Houston County Democratic Party chair also responded to Friday’s rally, criticizing Jackson over his business dealings with the state and calling for more transparency.
Kristen Kiefer sent the following statement:
“As Rick Jackson comes into Perry today, he still hasn’t come clean about how much money he’s making on the backs of taxpayers despite being caught secretly extending a multimillion dollar contract into the next governor’s term. What on earth is he hiding? Georgians deserve transparency around his secretive dealings, but Jackson is clearly determined to keep us all in the dark.”
