Final beam placed on guitar-shaped terminal at Middle Georgia Regional Airport

The private and corporate aviation terminal is expected to open by May 2027. Mayor Lester Miller says no taxpayer money is being used.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Construction crews placed the final beam Monday atop a unique, guitar-shaped executive terminal at Middle Georgia Regional Airport.

City leaders and builders celebrated the progress, saying the terminal will serve as a gateway for private and corporate aviation customers flying into Macon.

“This is one of kind not only in the state of Georgia, but probably nationwide,” President and CEO of Sheridan Construction Christy Kovac said. “I think it will be a sight to come see.” Kovac said her team has worked to bring together challenging angles and curves to complete the musical-inspired design.

Aviation Director Doug Faour said the new facility will make a strong first impression on business leaders considering Macon for investment.

“Individuals that are coming here to determine if they’re going to make a decision to do business here in Macon,” Faour said. “This is a first impression. This is a place they’ll see first, and when they come into this building, they’ll recognize our music heritage pretty quickly. It’s going to be right in their face. So, before they leave the airport, they’d already learned a very important piece of our community.”

The project is part of Macon-Bibb County’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the airport’s role in regional economic development. Officials say the construction has already created local jobs and generated demand for Georgia-made materials.

“The workforce development that it’s brought here to Macon, and the purchasing of local Georgia materials, huge impact with dollars staying right here in you know in Macon-Bibb County and Georgia abroad,” Kovac said.

The terminal is expected to open by May 2027. 

Mayor Lester Miller also reiterated that no taxpayer money is being spent on this project.
