(NBC)- President Donald Trump and his former attorney Michael Cohen appear to be putting years of bitter feuding behind them.

Trump joined Cohen on his new radio show, where the two openly acknowledged their complicated history.

“You and I have obviously traveled a pretty rocky road together,” Cohen told the president.

Cohen spent more than a decade as Trump’s personal attorney and fixer, once saying he would take a bullet for his boss. Their relationship fell apart after Cohen came under federal investigation in 2018 and turned against Trump.

Trump now says he believes Cohen was “weaponized” by investigators and told his former attorney he respects what he described as Cohen recanting his previous statements.

Cohen pleaded guilty to charges including tax evasion, campaign finance violations and bank fraud. Before beginning a three-year prison sentence in 2019, Cohen testified before Congress and sharply criticized Trump, calling him a “racist,” a “con man” and a “cheat.”

Cohen later became a key witness in the hush money case against Trump. Trump was convicted of falsifying business records involving payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and has denied wrongdoing.

For years, Trump publicly attacked Cohen, calling him a liar and a fraud.

Earlier this year, however, Cohen said he felt coerced into testifying. Investigators have maintained their work was not politically motivated.

Cohen now says his relationship with Trump is being “resuscitated,” while adding that “forgiveness does not mean amnesia.”

Cohen also told CNN he has requested a pardon from the White House but has not directly asked Trump for one.
